What's the Energy Footprint of our Food?

Given recent events, the European Union has agreed to implement a plan to reduce the Energy consumption and the transition to renewable energies.

But this is also a call for all of us to take action regarding the Energy Consumption and be active with our own decisions, that in the aggregate also have a great impact on the planet.

That’s why here we present you an estimate of the Energy Footprint of some products in order to give you a first tool to compare between them and make our contribution on energy saving.

Here we take into account the Energy necessary during the production and transport per kilogram of produced food.

Modern agriculture is heavily dependent on fossil resources. Both direct energy use for crop management and indirect energy use for fertilizers, pesticides and machinery production have contributed to the major increases in food production seen since the 1960s.
